RAT Beach Bike Tour FAQs

Location

The ride starts at RAT Beach which is located at the very south end of Torrance Beach. There are three parking lots south of Miramar Park which is located at the south end of the Esplanade. The starting area is in the very south parking lot and actually accessed via Paseo De La Playa which is a right turn off of the Esplanade. Enter in the first driveway access and park in one of the two lots to the north end. There are pay machines in the lot which are $7.00 but we have a special dispensation from LA County for $5.00 for all day. There will probably be an attendant in the booth which you can pay but be sure to put the ticket on your dash board.

Safety and Rules

  • Helmets are required. You will not be allowed on the course without a helmet.
  • All traffic laws must be obeyed. They are very sensitive in the Beach Cities regarding traffic laws.
  • Riders are to ride as close to the right side as possible and within the bike lane wherever possible. Ride in single file. All roads are open to regular traffic so please take extra precaution.
  • It is recommended each rider bring two (2) water bottles, a tube, a patch kit, tire levers, pump, and appropriate clothing for the weather. It often gets cold on the south side of Palos Verdes even on sunny days.

Support

The course will be marked at each turn via posted yellow arrow signs or colored arrows on the street surface and you will be provided a map and written description of the course at the registration area. Please be sure to come to a complete stop at all traffic signals and stop signs not controlled by law enforcement. There will be a medical aid station at the registration area and roving support will be available to transport stranded cyclist back to the start/finish area. There are several SAG stops set up along each route with water, food and refreshments.
